Senior Translator (f/m/d)

Your tasks:

  • Translate, proofread and post-edit technical German to English texts
  • Manage projects and process orders, which includes clarifying and implementing customer-specific workflows and providing support for external translators
  • Expand and maintain WACKER’s in-house terminology databases in RWS MultiTerm; carry out projects in RWS Trados Studio
  • Development (and/or related support) and implementation ofntranslation management workflows
  • Work with the head of CC-LS to (help) maintain and expand IT components (administrator role)

 

Your profile:

  • Degree in German to English translation or equivalent work experience
  • Experience as a Senior Translator (f/m/d), with an emphasis on translation, editing and/or project management
  • Broad range of general knowledge and experience in the fields of technology and/or the natural sciences – especially chemistry
  • Confident style and years of experience with journalistic texts, including editing and post-editing
  • Well-versed in conventional translation and publishing programs (RWS Trados, etc.)
  • Diligent approach to work, ability to work under pressure, good communication skills and assertiveness

Ihre Aufgaben:

  • Unter Einsatz eines Translation-Memory-Systems überprüfen Sie Übersetzungen hinsichtlich einer korrekten und einheitlichen Verwendung der vorgegebenen Terminologie.
  • Sie recherchieren bzw. erarbeiten die branchenspezifische Terminologie in der englischen Sprache.
  • Den übersetzten Zieltext überprüfen Sie auf akkurate Grammatik, Rechtschreibung und Interpunktion.
  • Sie überwachen die Rückläufe von internen Teammitgliedern und Kunden, um sicherzustellen, dass die Übersetzung ihren Anforderungen entspricht.

Ihr Profil:

  • Sie bringen ein abgeschlossenes Studium als Übersetzer (DE-EN) oder vergleichbare sprachliche Kenntnisse und Erfahrung in der Übersetzung mit
  • Sie verfügen über nachweisbare Berufserfahrung als Übersetzer oder in einer ähnlichen Funktion
  • Englischkenntnisse auf muttersprachlichem Niveau sowie sehr gute Deutschkenntnisse; weitere Sprachkenntnisse, idealerweise in einer asiatischen Sprache sind wünschenswert
  • Sie sind versiert im Umgang mit CAT-Tools, vorzugsweise across Language Server
  • Die schnelle Einarbeitung in verschiedene Systeme (CMS, PIM, TYPO3, …) fällt Ihnen leicht

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for an experienced

“Qualitätsprüfer für Medizinische Übersetzungen” (medical reports translator and reviewer)

to join our German language team. You will be responsible for the Language Quality Assurance (LQA) of translations completed by translation vendors. This is a great opportunity for someone with native fluency in English and German combined with a solid experience in healthcare and/or medical translation.
This is a permanent position with the ability to work from home/remotely (30 hours per week).

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Perform LQA of translations completed by translation vendors. This involves reviewing randomly selected translations of medical reports for accuracy and completeness with a particular focus on clinical quality. You will complete an internal LQA template with detailed feedback, identifying error categories, scoring the selected translations, and providing feedback to the translation vendors.
  • Translate medical documents (mainly German into English or vice versa in case of an internal translation request) as/when needed.
  • Monitor translation vendors’ quality performance and trends and collaborate with the Translations Vendor Manager to ensure that the translation vendors meet or exceed quality targets. Work with translation vendor partners to drive root-cause analysis, improvement action plans, and continuous quality improvement. Identify and recommend improvements in process to minimize or remove errors.
  • Work with the Quality Management team as needed to assist with investigating potential quality incidents reported by the client for the translation deliverables.
  • Create and maintain glossaries of medical terminology (German ⇄ US English). Collaborate with in-country medical staff to review and maintain glossaries. Share glossaries with translation vendors and ensure consistent utilization of said glossaries by the translation vendor via the auditing and review processes.
  • Create and maintain linguistic style guides for translation vendors to follow. Ensure compliance with style guide instructions via the auditing and reviewing processes.
  • Communicating with stakeholders daily, using communication platforms such as MS Teams.

 

Your profile:

Required:

  • Native fluency in both German and English to render translations from one language to the other.
  • English and German (mother tongue in one language, with at least C2 level command in the other language).
  • Expertise in medical and clinical terminology, and in translating medical records (visit notes, discharge reports, lab reports, findings reports, etc.).
  • 5+ years of medical translation experience, especially in translating medical records.
  • 2+ years of translation proofreading/reviewing experience with a knowledge of the language quality assurance tools (scorecards).
  • Bachelor’s degree in translations, linguistics, language studies, or related field, or country-specific certification / degree in translations, linguistics, language studies or related field.
  • Expertise in using MS Office Suite, including MS Teams.
  • Experience in using CAT tools (preferably RWS Trados Studio, MultiTerm) and OCR software such as ABBYY FineReader.
  • General tech savviness, i.e., feeling comfortable and at ease in using communication platforms such as MS Teams and other software products.


Preferred:

  • Candidates with a medical background (nurses, physical therapists, mid-wives, physicians, etc.).
  • Work experience in the healthcare sector is a significant plus.

PPD’s Language Services (LS) organization has a role for a Language Specialist. This role will be overseeing and managing final quality of assigned translations as well as develop and manage quality assurance and language asset strategies (e.g., translation memories, terminology and style guides) globally and for assigned languages. The language specialist will perform translations for assigned language in addition to owning the language strategy.

This role is for a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization, who resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways. This job is the fully qualified, career-oriented, journey-level position. Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

Main Responsibilities

  • Oversees and performs translation tasks including initial translation, revision and quality checks.
  • Develops and maintains global terminology strategy and for assigned languages.
  • Drives and implements global and local translation memories strategy.
  • Drives and executes global and local linguistic quality assurance process.
  • Drives global language quality strategy and has established tools to monitor the quality of outsourced language translations.
  • Analyses language quality issues and works on global and local improvement plans with project management.
  • Works on assigned projects by the Language Services department.
  • Represents the department as a prime contact on projects. Interacts with internal and external personnel on significant matters often requiring coordination between functional areas.
  • Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • 2 to 5 years proven medical translation experience (preferred in clinical translation).
  • Native German and fluent, working English required.
  • CAT/TMS tool experience required.
  • Proven Terminology and TM strategy experience required.
  • Proven skills of multi-tasking, time management, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Resourceful and solution oriented.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite.

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in translations, linguistics or language studies with significant translation studies from a recognized institution or higher education.
  • Bachelor's degree in another field and 2 years of translation experience (preferred in clinical translations).
  • If no Bachelor's degree then, 2 to 5 years of translation experience (preferred in clinical translations).
  • Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job.
